What’s your cider?

Did you know that there are currently 726 craft cider producers in the U.S. and 153 craft cider producers in Canada! That’s insane! Cider seems to be gaining as much traction as craft beers have in the past. I’ve been on a cider kick lately, mostly because of the seasonal heat. While you can certainly drink a cider any time of the year, I prefer drinking a nice, crips cider in the summer to balance out that hot, humid feeling you get while perched on your deck. There’s so many breweries and varieties of cider to choose now, some with varying degrees of carbonation and ABV. Flavors can be all across the board – anything from Apple, Strawberry, Blueberry, Pineapple, Pear and Rosé, it’s hard to pick just one!

With that said, I narrowed down 5 ciders I thoroughly enjoyed with uniquely different flavors and qualities that can be purchased in the U.S. or Canada:

Angry Orchard Crisp Apple

Sweetness: Medium-Dry

Made in New York, USA by the Boston Beer Company, Angry Orchard has a clear, pale lemon colour with aromas of crisp fresh apple and honey. It has an ABV of 5.0% and on the palate it is slightly carbonated and light-bodied with flavours of fresh apple.

Angry Orchard also does a Pear, Green Apple, Easy Apple, Pear, Stone Dry and Rosé.

Angry Orchard Hard Cider

Bulwark Original

Sweetness: Dry

Made in Nova Scotia, Canada by the Bulwark Cider Company, Bulwark Original is made up of 5 varieties of Nova Scotia apples and feels dry and crisp to drink. It has an ABV of 5.8% and is gluten free!

Bulwark also does a Blush, Gold and Hopped variety.

Red Skies shows off as tart, juicy and tropical on the palette. It has an ABV of 5.8% and uses rare, cider-specific apples that ferment into bold flavors.

Stormalong also does a Legendary Dry, Mass Appeal, Light of the Sun, Red Skies at Night, The Grand Banks (Whisky and Rum Barrel-aged), Kingston Black and Boston Heirloom.
